You’re not alone in your diabetes journey. Many people with type 2 diabetes feel overwhelmed and unsure of where to start. This blog post outlines my top tips for achieving diabetes remission – a personalized approach that focuses on sustainable lifestyle changes and empowers you to take control of your health.

My diverse background as a pharmacist, researcher (PhD), and clinician across various healthcare settings has given me a unique perspective on diabetes management. I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges and triumphs of individuals managing diabetes. I’m excited to share the secrets of those who have successfully lowered their blood sugars and achieved their weight loss goals.
· Bringing your diabetes into remission is hard work but I believe that with the right support and behaviour change tools most people can succeed.
· In order to stay in diabetes remission (you can actually not reverse it) you need to implement habits that you can keep up.
· Dieting and restrictive eating should be a thing of the past.
· Changing your relationship with food is only a small part of achieving diabetes remission but the process cannot be rushed.
· Don’t underestimate a good nights sleep!
· Start small.
· Don’t forget to hydrate.
· Your lifestyle changes should fit around your life and not the other way around.
· Commit to eating real, whole foods most of the time – anything that has been modified or stripped off the good stuff is out.
· Now is the time to embrace your favourite cultural foods but also discover some new favourites.
· Don’t worry about what worked for others, you aren’t living their life.
· When you know what to eat, you need to tune into your body’s signals and decode how much to eat and when to eat.
· Don’t be afraid to be a little hungry.
· Your ideal weight may not be your healthiest weight.
Okay, now to the most important one:
· If you are not enjoying yourself in the process, you are doing it wrong!

As a mother, daughter, and wife myself, I deeply understand the importance of cultural heritage and its impact on our lives. I believe that South Asian women should be empowered to share their rich culinary traditions with the next generation while simultaneously fostering healthier relationships with food and their bodies.
I envision a future where conversations about diabetes within South Asian families shift from fear and anxiety to empowerment and proactive health management. Instead of solely focusing on the genetic predisposition to diabetes, we can focus on building healthy habits, cultivating a positive body image, and embracing a holistic approach to well-being.
I invite you to reflect on your own diabetes journey and consider how you can incorporate these principles into your own life. Remember, small changes can lead to big results. Schedule a free consultation to learn more about my personalised approach to diabetes remission.
